چکیده

In this paper, we present several applications of the Michelson Interferometer in analyzing monochromatic, dichromatic, and white light. First, the wavelength of the mercury green line is determined to be 540 ± 36theo ± 10sys nm by measuring the fringe separation. An estimate was made by counting fringes passing a reference point as a platform mounted mirror was moved translationally with a precision micrometer. Next, the two mercury yellow lines at 576.99±0.07theo±0.04sys nm and 579.04± 0.07theo ± 0.04sys nm were determined by measuring the spacing between in phase and out of phase fringe segments. Finally, we report the observation of white light fringes that occur when the path length ratio approaches unity.

Electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using a Michelson interferometer

Fabricating an electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLC) using a Michelson interferometer is reported. Simplicity of the method and possibility of fabricating different focal length lenses in a single set up are among the advantages of the method. It is demonstrated that the Fresnel structured zone plate acts as a cylindrica...

Length sensing and control of a Michelson interferometer with power recycling and twin signal recycling cavities.

The techniques of power recycling and signal recycling have proven as key concepts to increase the sensitivity of large-scale gravitational wave detectors by independent resonant enhancement of light power and signal sidebands within the interferometer. Developing the latter concept further, twin signal recycling was proposed as an alternative to conventional detuned signal recycling. Twin sign...

Michelson interferometer with diffractively-coupled arm resonators in second-order Littrow configuration.

Michelson-type laser-interferometric gravitational-wave (GW) observatories employ very high light powers as well as transmissively-coupled Fabry-Perot arm resonators in order to realize high measurement sensitivities. Due to the absorption in the transmissive optics, high powers lead to thermal lensing and hence to thermal distortions of the laser beam profile, which sets a limit on the maximal...

White-light interferometric fiber-optic strain sensor from three-peak-wavelength broadband LED source.

A white-light fiber-optic interferometer working in the spatial domain, using a special three-peak-wavelength LED as a light source and one of the two arms of the Michelson interferometer as a strain sensor, is presented. Based on the Gaussian spectrum distribution function, a simple spectrum-decomposing method is used to describe the special three-peak-wavelength LED source. Experimental and t...

Quantum noise of a Michelson-Sagnac interferometer with translucent mechanical oscillator

Quantum fluctuations in the radiation pressure of light can excite stochastic motions of mechanical oscillators thereby realizing a linear quantum opto-mechanical coupling. When performing a precise measurement of the position of an oscillator, this coupling results in quantum radiation pressure noise. Up to now this effect has not been observed yet. Generally speaking, the strength of radiatio...
